Non-toxic floor cleaning products

January 21st, 2010

In a couple of months Spring will be here. This year you might want to throw away some of the cleaning products you’ve used in the past and consider “greener” cleaning solutions. Today’s modern home is full of chemical products designed to make domestic life easier but in reality they are loaded with toxic and polluting substances.
Natural household cleaners provide a good safe alternative to chemical cleaners for a clean, greener home. Using natural household cleaners can be an effective addition to your green living strategies.
More and more people are adversely affected by the chemicals in their home environment. Using non-toxic, natural cleaners reduces the burden.
Using non-toxic cleaning products is not really chemical-free cleaning. But the chemicals used in these environmentally-safe cleaning products have fewer effects on our health.
Chemical solutions not only contribute to environmental pollution but can also affect long term health for your family. Does anyone in your household suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis? According to the US National Center for Health Statistics, three in one will suffer from allergies or respiratory illness in one household, and the use of chemical cleaning products have been linked to contributing to the cause. By eliminating harmful chemicals in the home environment and using non-toxic cleaning products you can reduce some of these effects.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the American Lung Association have done extensive research on the chemicals used in most cleaners and the findings are worth attention. For example, when sodium hypochlorite, a key ingredient in chlorine bleach, is mixed with ammonia, a toxic gas is released that may cause mild asthmatic symptoms or more serious respiratory problems. Ammonia, another common cleaning ingredient, especially in glass cleaners, is known to cause eye and lung irritation along with headaches. Phenol and cresol in disinfectants can cause diarrhea, fainting, dizziness, kidney and liver damage.
Natura Care is a professional floor care and restoration service company; our technicians utilize non-toxic, environmentally friendly products which are safe for children and pets. Using only non-toxic solutions and products that are safe for children, pets and people who suffer from allergies helps prevent health issues.
Although there aren’t that many general purpose cleaners to choose from that are non-toxic, finding floor cleaners is a little bit easier. But be aware of the non-professional cleaners. Talk about the subject, ask questions, and even ask for their environmentally-friendly product description. Professionals in the field will be glad to send you or hand you the DMO of any product they use in your home or business.
